Cal Farley's Boys Ranch: 70 Years of Providing a Shirttail to Hang Onto
Cal Farley, a successful Amarillo businessman, civic leader and humanitarian dreamed of a place where a troubled child could be given a second chance for a successful future – away from the streets, alleys, bars and pool halls of the city. It was his love for children and a rancher’s generous donation of 120 acres of land that founded Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch in 1939. Now celebrating its 70th Anniversary, Boys Ranch has always provided boys and girls “A Shirttail to Hang Onto.”
Cal Farley's Girlstown, U.S.A.: 60 Years of Providing a Better Place for Girls
A social worker named Amelia Anthony founded Girlstown, U.S.A. in 1949 when she opened a temporary shelter for girls at Buffalo Gap, TX. In July of that same year a rancher donated land a few miles south of Whiteface, TX. Shortly thereafter, Ms. Anthony and her nine girls took up residence and made Girlstown, U.S.A. their home. Now an affiliate of Cal Farley’s, Girlstown, U.S.A. is celebrating its 60th Anniversary and still provides girls with care and better opportunities.
