The Annual Cal Farley's Boys Ranch Rodeo

“The Rodeo where Cal Farley’s kids ride.”

The 64th Annual Boys Ranch Rodeo, the area’s rodeo built on a tradition of featuring kids ages 3 to 18, bucked into action over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

The rodeo was held Saturday, August 30, and Sunday, August 31, at Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch (located just 36 miles from Amarillo on U.S. 385).

For 64 consecutive years the Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch Rodeo has provided an opportunity for the youth living at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch and Cal Farley's Girlstown, U.S.A. to showcase their talents and compete for belt-buckles and saddles in calf riding, stick horse racing, steer riding, pole bending, barrel racing, break away roping and bull riding events.

At the conclusion of Sunday’s competition, the following high-point holders were honored in their respective categories: Blake, Senior All-Around Cowboy; Karla, Senior All-Around Cowgirl; and Kaden, Junior All-Around.

In addition to highlighting the skills of the boys and girls, the rodeo serves as the annual homecoming for Cal Farley’s alumni. Each year hundreds of former residents attend the rodeo and participate in alumni events. During the weekend's festivities, four former residents of Cal Farley's Boys Ranch were recognized as "Distinguished Alumni." The four alumni include Alvis Grant, Roy Turner, Gary Hardy and Bill Sarpalius.
